A note: I wrote this post before seeing the horror that occurred in Charlottesville, VA this weekend. My heart goes out to the families of the woman and state troopers who were killed, but make no mistake: that hate that those angry, right-wing protestors harbor still lives in your backyard, in your neighborhood, possibly next door.
You have a responsibility to support your black, brown and minority brothers and sisters as they work to achieve rights systematically denied to them. Listen. Donate to organizations working to advance these causes (You can find an awesome list here). Call out hate when you see it.
Back to regularly scheduled programming:
Hello! It has been so long since we’ve gathered together on Sunday, coffee cups nuzzled close to our chests. How are you? I have moved, I’m (hopefully) on the tail end of a gnarly ear infection, I’ve beaten back the work week like nobody’s business, though I’m a little burnt out. The walls are still bare and I’m not toootally sold on the layout I’ve created for this gem, but pictures of the new pad are coming soon, I promise.
Here’s what I’ve been reading:
Summer means I am obsessed with rosé – especially these rosé sablé cookies.
Kesha’s! Album! Rainbow! is so good!! On repeat: Hymn, Bastards, Learn to Let Go.
Sorry if you’re starstruck / blame it on the stardust
You’ve probably seen it all over the internet in prep for the eclipse on August 21, but: Annie Dillard’s classic essay “Total Eclipse” for The Atlantic.
Something to break your heart: imagine being a mother in Syria. Now imagine that your child has cancer.
Something a little lighter, to blow your freakin’ mind: “What Brands Are Actually Behind Trader Joe’s Snacks?”
Hey, it’s kinda bullshit that Congress doesn’t pay it’s interns (not least because, without precious fellowship/scholarship $$, many kids that SHOULD see the inside of that building, won’t).
Really interesting read about how influencer-status is the new unpaid internship (i.e. investing capital now to gain capital later).
Very interested in The Ordinary and their incredible, very affordable formulas.
The International Space Station has a podcast, and if you’re not listening, you’re missing out. “Houston, We Have a Podcast.” (AMAZING title. Brilliant. I love this. Also: isn’t Public Affairs Officer of the International Space Station the coolest job???)
Okay pals. Can you believe we’re so close to Labor Day? I’m hopefully heading to the beach next weekend for a much-needed sand-between-the-toes moment. Here’s to a week full of crossing stuff off to-do lists and enjoying the sunsets. Late summer is so fleeting and so good.
