Today, July 29th, is apparently National Lipstick Day. Here’s a quick post I threw together this morning about my four favorite shades of my favorite guilty pleasure:
Top left: Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Suede Lipstick in 030-“High Heels”
Admittedly, this one was an attempt at paring down my taste for what my mother calls “loud” colors (see bottom row). It’s not a huge color payoff, and it can get chalky, but I do really like the light pink color. It’s fun to wear with very little makeup because it’s enough color to show you tried today, but also enough color to show that you didn’t try that hard.

You’ll notice I have a soft spot for pink anything on my lips, and this color was the perfect balance of a natural pink and a punchy bright color. As I grow older I’m sure I’ll have to mellow my lipstick choices out, but this one seems like a happy medium between demure and decadent.

I. Love. This. Lipstick. I love the color, I love the texture (it’s creamy, it’s moisturizing, it’s fabulous). I love the outrageous orange packaging. Everything about it makes me happy and I wear it as often as I can. I’m young, and I will have neon lips if I want to, thank you very much. This was the lipstick that showed me how much color I could wear, even as someone with delicate features and fair skin (I thought I was relegated to demure pinks forever, people, so this was a marvelous breakthrough). I love this with an all white outfit for the summer, I love this for a punch of color in the winter. I just love it.
Bottom right: Kate Moss for Rimmel London “Lasting Finish by Kate” Lipstick in 09- “Rosetto”
This is the best red I’ve picked up so far, and I’ll tell you why. In some lights, it’s a rich plum-red color and in some lights, it’s full red. It blends easily and plays nicely with other reds, so I can always play the reds and plums up and down as I choose. It’s more than a little dark, so mistakes are easily noticed, but it’s such a multi-faceted color. *swoons* (Note: I couldn’t find the exact color anymore *frowny face* so the link is the best I thought would substitute. Guess I’ll have to find a new favorite red? Gulp).
I wore it in this photo on Instagram and I still can’t believe how beautiful it looks.
Some swatches for you (remember, I am paler than you think, even with summer freckles!):
